THINGS TO DO

Pondside is perfectly situated for exploring the North, West and East Highlands. There are a too many fantastic attractions for us to list so we have listed just a few suggestions which you may find useful for planning your stay.  We are more than happy to make more suggestions if you require.

WALKING

The walking opportunities are endless.  A good website to check is Walk Highlands. Some of our personal recomendations include:

CYCLING

A perfect area for cylcling.  We are just off the famous main cycling route 1 (John o' Groats to Lands End).

If it is a shorter cycle you are after then we

promise you will not be dissapointed and we can recommend many, including The Highland Wildcat trails and Balblair trails

Just up road from Pondside

With Loch Shin being the largest loch in Sutherland it is perfect for anyone wishing to sail.  If you are visiting without your own boat there is Loch Shin Sailing club that meets every Sunday and Wednesday evening from April - Novemeber.  

SAILING

The club is a RYA (Recognised Teaching Establishment) and caters for novices or for experienced sailors.  You are welcome to join them as a day member and use their boats.

BEACHES

Visitors to all coasts, North, East & West are completly spoilt by the beautiful tranquil beaches.  Here are a few must see's!

North: Durness Sands

East: Brora beach seals

East: Tarbet Ness Lighthouse

West: Sandwood bay

PLACES TO EAT

If you fancy a treat and dont want to cook we can highly recommend the The Pier Cafe which boasts Trip advisor certificate of Excellence 2015, Highlands & Islands food and drink awards finalist 2012, 2014 & 2015 and finalist in Highlands & Islands Tourism Awards 2014.  The Pier is located on the bank of Little Loch Shin in Lairg village.
